The famous book by Charles de Coster "The Legend of Ulenspiegel", which was published in December 1867 not only glorified the Belgian literature, but also became an outstanding phenomenon of the world literature , in the context of which this work stands next to such great books as "Don Quixote" of the Cervantes and "Gargantua and Pantagruel" by Rabelais. Charles de Coster's novel, which tells of the adventures of Till Eulenspiegel and his fat friend and glutton Lamme Gudzak , is imbued with the spirit of freedom-loving. Till Eulenspiegel, a joker and a witty mocker, from which arrogant noblemen get to monks and kings , becomes a fighter, a brave geth who embodies the national spirit of Flanders . Til is a national hero who never dies or grows old . He has many faces: he is a soldier or peasant, then a painter in the Landgrave palace, then a jester at the court of the king , but everywhere he remains a rebel, a fighter for the happiness of his people. .

The Legend of Thyl Ulenspiegel and Lamme Goedzak (French: La Légende et les Aventures héroïques, joyeuses et glorieuses d'Ulenspiegel et de Lamme Goedzak au pays de Flandres et ailleurs) is a 1 867 novel by Belgian author Charles De Coster. Based on the 14th-century Low German figure Till Eulenspiegel, Coster's novel recounts the allegorical adventures as those of a Flemish prankster, Thyl Ulenspiegel, during the Reformation wars in the Netherlands.
